Things we take for granted

Yesterday, I learned a lot about the people of Caldwell, who came out to pay their respects to Mayor Bernard Rychlik, a man I never had the fortune to meet, but wish I had.

I have to admit, I too was there in the street, mostly out of curiosity, just to see if anyone else would come out in the heat, but, once I was there, and listened to a few of the people who knew Mayor Rychlik, I was saddened, in a selfish way, that I had never known him. As I walked through the crowd, and heard stories being told, there were many emotions in this group, stories of past experiences, but mostly, people were just there because he was their friend. I shared a bench with an elderly gentleman in his 80s, who with a bad back had walked out to say goodbye to an old friend, I don’t know him, nor do I currently know any of the others that were there, but this I intend to change, I will never take this community for granted again!
